The Institute for Board Prep is based on the extremely effective model created in 1981 by Dr. Robert Blanc. Working from Dr. Blanc’s successful platform, which was initially launched at UMKC, this program has earned the reputation of being the “gold standard” of USMLE/COMLEX review programs.

Since its inception, the faculty have expanded on the tried and tested educational concepts, and mastered strategies that assist students in improving study skills, comprehension of materials, and a heightened concentration which is essential for working on an eight or nine hour examination. 

Our highly skilled tutors, led by Peggy Mitchell (former Associate Director of UMKC’s Institute for Professional Preparation program), have a combined 30 years experience in helping students pass their USMLE/COMLEX Steps 1, 2 and 3, as well as COMVEX and SPECIALTY BOARDS.

What We Do:

The strength of this program lies in identifying the unique learning pattern of each student enrolled into any one of our programs. We accomplish this during small group sessions as well as individual tutoring. Once we have identified how each student perceives, comprehends and processes information we work on improving students’ skills in order for them achieve higher scores on their examinations.

Through our experience we have solidified the insight that passing the USMLE/COMLEX is not only based on the material students have learned in medical school, but there is a realm of other aspects that come into play when answering multiple choice questions. 

To be effective on the examinations students need to master the necessary skills of interdisciplinary techniques that are beneficial to test-takers. Thus, we developed and copyrighted our trademark: an incomparable “Method^©” that assists students to draw upon their reasoning skills, knowledge base, logical thought process, and problem solving abilities when working board-style questions. This is truly the key to success. Understanding that recall is only 15-20% of the total grade, and the rest is accomplished by question interpretation and logical thought is the first step in passing the boards.
